4--The Diploemat |
20th anniversary of Senior Poets Laureate poetry competitions |
September 2012 |

There were 695 entries from 167 poets from 44 states, the District of Columbia, and Malaysia. Youngest entrants were two 52-year old poets; eldest, two 94-year olds. This year's hard-working panel of judges included one first-time judge and one panelist who wore three hats (1st round judge, national rounds judge, tie-breaker). They were: Albert L. Baker, webmaster, Springfield, Missouri; Ronald Cannata, former director of Amy Kitchener's Angels Without Wings Foundation, Inc., Fairview, New Jersey; Yvonne Nunn, dean of the Cyber-college of Online Poetry, Hermleigh, Texas; Janice Rae Rau, fine artist, Reston, Virginia; Vera-Jane Goodin Schultz, SPL Contest co-founder, Springfield, Missouri.; Theodore Skaggs (Harold E. Grice), honorary North Dakota Senior Poet Laureate, Salinas, California; Polliann Nuckolls Thomas, Senior Poet Laureate, South Dakota, Hot Springs, South Dakota; Wanda Sue Parrott, contest co-founder and coordinator. Thanks to everyone who made the competition a great event. The 2012 winners are:
