YESTERDAY'S
HERO
The fragrance; river of Osage,
With purpled flowering lilac,
A thunderous riverside barrage,
The Hawkins flint ignites a crack,
In reminiscence of olden day,
With memories that of Daniel Boone,
Our men of present; Wild display,
With coats of fur, and hats raccoon.
The giant swaying oaks will sleep,
With noiseless whisper; "Cannons sound,"
Relentless thunder makes them weep,
With misty rain expulsing round,
Before the wandering Ozarks,
Exploring Lewis; Came with Clark,
Upon the lemon meadowlarks,
A crested breast; A singing lark.
A frontiersman Davy Crockett's name,
And from Kentucky ventured west,
The Alamo embarked his fame,
In Texas now, and laid to rest,
Up banks of Indiana came,
The sweetest fruit of taste indeed,
With Johnny Appleseed's acclaim,
There flourished Johnny Appleseed.
A Mississippi river boat,
Will hold a future president,
With river rafts, and goods to tote,
And Lincoln's timely resident,
Adventurous youngster; Honest Abe,
The Mississippi moulds his state,
In Illinois his future nabe,
Unfortunate death becoming fate.
