2012 New York Senior Poet Laureate Update

VINCENT J. TOMEO’S IDENTITY-THEFT

The costly ongoing attempt by Vincent J. Tomeo to resolve his identity-theft matter is still in the courts. It recently drew public attention in a feature by Paul DeBenedetto on Oct. 19 in the online journal info.comNewYork. Full story was at:

dnainfo.com/newyork/20121019/…/former-queens-teacher-cyber-bullied-for-months-lawsuit-alleges . Highlights are excerpted here.

“Vincent Tomeo, 65, a self-described poet and history teacher . . . says unnamed people harassed him by posting a litany of comments on at least nine different websites . . . . ‘When I walked into his office to ask him a homework question, he was all flush purple and unresponsive,’ one comment on RateMyTeachrs.com allegedly said. ‘His head was tilted backwards, he was snoring and mumbling, and he even urinated himself.’

“The harassment went on for about six months, Tomeo said, and he even had to contact RateMyTeacher.com to have the comments removed. . . Tomeo said the offenders created a fake account . . . and posted poems in his name. . . . according to the complaint filed in Queens Supreme Court. . . in one doctored image, Tomeo is shown ‘injecting drugs into his arm’ . . . He and his lawyer, Joseph M. Brunner, are planning to subpoena internet service providers to find out the commenters’ and posters’ identities.“
