Native American Poet Laureate Contest

Entries accepted January 1 through March 10, 2013

Awards and How to Enter--- Poet Laureate receives Certificate plus 1/3 total entry fees received; 1/3 total entry fees received will go for two Golden Calf Awards (runners up) and other awards at the judges’ discretion. One-third remains with the producers for financing the event.

Rules for Entering--- Submit entries via regular first class mail to the address shown below or e-mail to bquin@ymail.com. Entries must be typed on plain 8.5 x 11 white paper (no decorations or illustrations) and electronic submissions must be followed up by submission of envelopes; and entry fee as outlined below. Individual poems must not exceed one page in length. Only one poem per page — do not combine several poems on one page. Poems should be in capitals and lower case letters, not all capitals.

Send two copies of each poem--- one blank (except for poem); one with White Buffalo Contest in upper left margin and poet's name, address, e-mail, phone # in the upper right margin. Also, enclose two #10 envelopes with 1 oz. First Class postage, one blank and one addressed to yourself. Keep originals because entries will not be returned. The envelopes must be received with entry fee before electronic submissions are activated.

Judges and Winners--- Honorary White Buffalo Tribe Chiefs and designated Members.

Winners of the top three awards will be notified,--- announced and published online at www.greatspiritpublishing.yolasite.com/white-buffalo.php, and in the March/April 2013 edition of The Diploemat newsletter.

Poetry and Literary Challenge Anthology--- Winning entries may be eligible to be included in the 2013 edition of Gifts of the Great Spirit, Volume IV, anthology of poetry and literary challenge winners. Topic of the annual White Buffalo Literary Challenge will be published in the March/April edition of The Diploemat and winning submissions will be announced in the June issue of The Diploemat and at Great Spirit Publishing’s website.) All copyrights revert to the writers and poets.

Entries and Submission--- Entries must be about Native American culture, history, spirituality, or psychology. Poets need not be full-blooded nor even part Native American, but poems must accurately depict American Indians. We prefer entries that reflect the positive essence of Native American Spirituality.

Mailing Instructions:---No limit to number of poems each poet may enter, but entries must include $5 for First Poem, and $3 for each subsequent poem.

MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO: WSP LITERARY FUND and send entries, fees, and two stamped #10 envelopes to:
