Donald L. DePriest was born and raised in southeast Missouri but has spent most of his life in the Ozark Mountains around Springfield, MO. He is a retired teacher and speech pathologist, having taught English, history, speech, theater and speech therapy in the public schools. |
Don is currently the newsletter ("Museletter") editor of the Poets and Friends, the local and founding chapter of the Missouri State Poetry Society, and the co-editor of their state newsletter, "Spare Mule".
Don has been writing poetry for over 25 yrs. which covers a wide variety of subjects. Much of his poetry has been of the inspirational nature, but there are also a mixture of pieces about the family, love, humor, and every day life experiences within his work. Most of the more formal styles he uses here were inspired by challenges within the local poet society chapter, Poets and Friends, which also gives Don much support and encouragement.
This book saved my tongue, which I bite when chewing it after being asked: Have you been saved? Now I hand an inquisitor a copy of Mr. DePriest's brilliant "Response to The Evangelical" (page 120) without even trying to swallow my tongue.

I’d like to write a Mona Lisa,
A piece with grace and style
That captures the eye, intrigues the mind
And leaves a mystic smile.
