Maureen Paccione
2011 West Virginia Honor Scroll Award

Artist Maureen “Moe” Paccione, 57, Harpers Ferry, was the 2010 West Virginia Senior Poet Laureate. She is shown here with her husband Jeff. Her extraordinary talent as a painter who uses birchbark as her medium led to her profile of an unknown Native American chief being chosen as cover art on the forthcoming edition of Gifts of the Great Spirit, Volume II. Moe claims a Celtic background, with no known Indian forebears, so she shares this mystery chief—whose headband bears a White Buffalo medicine wheel above the temple—with readers. Read about Moe and her art at Her sign of the zodiac is Capricorn.

Mirrored images, gazing
Through the panes of glass
Reflective eyes,
Inquisitive, little feathered one
Unhindered and free
Peering through my window
What is it that you see?
Silhouettes changing, or is it me
Is it me?
Pondering this moment
Reticence, at last
Inside, looking out
Gazing through the panes
Reflections, through the glass
