NORTH DAKOTA SENIOR POET LAUREATE
Theodore Skaggs

MAN IT’S COLD UP HERE

The wind it blows
The cold is cold
The wild prairie rose is froze

Up in the north
Against 49
Escaping ain’t a choice

Indians had it
Whites took it
They don’t neither know what to do

Too cold part time
Too hot part time
Ain’t no time just right

But danged if it don’t
Danged if it do
Give a sense of wheren’t you are

North of South
South of the North
Dakota, North Dakota. It’s you.
