STANDING ON THE BUNK HOUSE PORCH
AT TWO BARS 7 RANCH IN TIE SIDING, WYOMING
In the distance I saw two horizontal clouds
brand the bawling sky
like it was a new born calf.
Beyond the gates at the far end of the pasture
dew drops and horses munched breakfast together
beside the mirrored pond.
To my right
a mountain of pink rocks
in all shapes and sizes
bloomed with the sun’s early morning rays.
I shifted from boot to boot; the new day doodle-doed.
Hoof prints in the dirt galloped by looking for answers—
it’s been a long time.
Bob Ericson, 69, of Omaha is a retired illustrator/designer. He earned a B.A. in Applied Art from Penn State University in 1963. He is a competitive badminton player, board member of the Nebraska Sports Council, and badminton sport director in Cornhusker State Games. He has two pieces in the Air Force Art Collection.
