IDAHO SENIOR POET LAUREATE
Michael Tatum

TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES

Walking home from the movies
On a rainy Tuesday night
Thinking about the movie
A romantic comedy
And how I sat on the back row
All alone
Watching people
Mostly the couples
As they watched the movie
Shared popcorn
Held hands and laughed together
And how all alone
On the back row
I laughed with them
Until I cried

Michael Tatum, 63, of Rexburg, is a sociology professor who also writes under the pen name Michael Williamson. His touching free verse “Tuesday Night at the Movies” reveals loneliness we can all feel in a crowd. We welcome him to our circle of new Senior Poets Laureate and hope to see more of Michael’s work. He lists other occupations as husband and father. His sign is Taurus.
