LEFTOVERS
Scraps of life,
scrawled on napkins,
sketched on envelopes,
some memorialized in print,
the rest tear stained
swept out of an empty house
by family too blind
to notice her legacy.
Katherine Sherin-Zauner, 80, of Venice, is a returning Florida Senior Poet Laureate, a title she first won in 2007. She is a retired teacher with five children, fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She has published four poetry chapbooks. Other interests are reading and cultivating African violets and orchids. She received the Golden Pen Award for Living Poet in 2009. Her sun sign is Virgo.
